The 2022 Kia Sorento range of configurations is currently priced from $28,988.
Our most recent review of the 2022 Kia Sorento resulted in a score of 8.5 out of 10 for that particular example.
Carsguide Deputy News Editor Tom White had this to say at the time: Hybrid tech without a plug has proven to be the level of electrification most Australians are ready for, and while the PHEV version of the Sorento is lovely, this HEV version is every bit as good and almost as efficient in the real world, which speaks volumes about the price difference between the two.

The default purchase for somebody looking for a mid-sized hybrid SUV is the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. But if that’s too big, there’s the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid, C-HR Hybrid and even the Corolla Cross Hybrid which sounds like the marketplace is getting crowded but is really just a reflection of the appetite right now for cars like these. And that’s the catch; the waiting times for a brand-new example of some of these cars is out to many months and even years. So your plan to shop second-hand makes plenty of sense, but don’t expect any bargains in a market currently being dominated by lots of demand and less supply.
Beyond the Toyota brand (which has been doing hybrids longer than just about anybody else) there’s also the Mazda CX-30, Subaru XV Hybrid, Haval Jolion Hybrid, Kia Niro, Subaru Forester Hybrid, Nissan Qashqai e-Power, MG HS, Honda HR-V e and more. For something a bit bigger, try the Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe hybrids. There are others out there, too, that are probably bigger or more expensive than you need, but it's very much a growing scene in the Australian marketplace.

Every Sorento variant in Australia offers seven seats, with the first and second row on rails to maximise the available space for adults. Seats can be had with either cloth or leather trim, and with or without electrical adjust depending on the variant. Higher variants offer heated seats for the first and second row, and ventilation for the first row.
The Sorento is available in a total of seven colours, including two whites, two blues, a silver, a grey, and black. Premium shades wear an extra cost of $695.
The Sorento interior is a versatile space, offering sufficient room for adults across all three rows. Every Sorento variant in Australia has seven seats, even the PHEV, with little extra room lost to its underfloor battery. The standard interior offers cloth manually adjustable seats in every row, while top-spec grades offer quilted Nappa leather with electrical adjust for the front passengers.
Standard gear on top-spec GT-Line grades includes a 10.25-inch multimedia touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital dash, 8.0-inch head up display, Quilted Nappa leather interior trim, full electrical adjust for the front seats with both heating and ventilation, dual-zone climate control, heated rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, keyless entry with push-start ignition, ambient interior lighting, a 360-degree parking suite, and a motorised tailgate.
The Sorento normally has VDA boot capacities of 2011L with the second and third rows down, 616L with the second row up, and 187L with the third row up. However, the plug-in hybrid variant loses a small amount of space, offering 1988L with the second and third rows down, 604L with the second row up, and 175L with the third row up.
Kia does not offer official 0-100km/h times for any Sorento variant. Independent testing places sprint times between 7 - 9 seconds depending on variant.
