The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is the high-performance flagship model in the American EV range, offering startling thrust and grip befitting that title.

Kicking off from $98,490 before on-road costs, this is also the most luxurious of the Mach-E family, with performance-enhancing additions like adaptive dampers and 20-inch alloy wheels. As part of the 2026 facelift, changes include a switch from a rotary-dial transmission selector to a column shift arrangement and improved suspension to improve the ride.

There’s also racier trim befitting the sporty attitude, as well as unique body trim and bolstered sports seats, among other bits and pieces.

Standard features run to LED headlights, a heat pump, heated and powered front seats, artificial leather trim, ambient lighting, a fixed panoramic roof, dual-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, a 15.5-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 10-speaker premium audio, a wireless charger and a powered tailgate. Note, however, that there is no spare wheel, just a tyre-inflation kit.

The Mexican-made Mustang Mach-E GT has no ANCAP crash-test safety rating, and is not fitted with a front-centre airbag as per the other grades due to bolstered sports seats up front.

Otherwise, it has all the other safety gear, like autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with intersection assist, reverse brake assist, post-impact braking, lane-keep aid, lane-departure warning, evasive-steer assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition and tyre-pressure monitors.

Unlike the Ford Mustang Mach-E Select and Premium, the GT is all-wheel drive, and is motivated by two electric motors – the main one on the rear axle and one over the front axle. Drive is sent via a single-speed reduction gear transmission.

Compared to the pre-facelift model, the 2026 GT is significantly up on muscle, with a startling 434kW of power and 955Nm of torque. This allows for a blistering 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.8 seconds, on the way to a 200km/h top speed.

Finally, as per the Premium, the GT uses a Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) unit, with a useable 91kWh capacity. Not surprisingly, consumption is high given the sheer speed of this EV, to 21.0kWh/100km, though range improves over the pre-facelift GT at a still-laudable 515km WLTP.

Byron started his motoring journalism career when he joined John Mellor in 1997 before becoming a freelance motoring writer two years later. He wrote for several motoring publications and was ABC Youth radio Triple J's "all things automotive" correspondent from 2001 to 2003. He rejoined John Mellor in early 2003 and has been with GoAutoMedia as a senior product and industry journalist ever since. With an eye for detail and a vast knowledge base of both new and used cars Byron lives and breathes motoring. His encyclopedic knowledge of cars was acquired from childhood by reading just about every issue of every car magazine ever to hit a newsstand in Australia. The child Byron was the consummate car spotter, devoured and collected anything written about cars that he could lay his hands on and by nine had driven more imaginary miles at the wheel of the family Ford Falcon in the driveway at home than many people drive in a lifetime. The teenage Byron filled in the agonising years leading up to getting his driver's license by reading the words of the leading motoring editors of the country and learning what they look for in a car and how to write it. In short, Byron loves cars and knows pretty much all there is to know about every vehicle released during his lifetime as well as most of the ones that were around before then.
