The Life is the mid-grade in the eighth-generation Golf range, wearing an MSRP of $34,250.
It is available only with a 110 TSI 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine (110kW/250Nm) with a new eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Standard fit includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in sat-nav, and digital radio, wireless device charging, a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, decorative trim upgrades over the base Golf, LED interior ambient lighting, and LED head- and taillights, tri-zone climate control, keyless entry and push-start ignition, as well as heated auto-folding wing mirrors.

Volkswagen's full 'IQ Drive' active safety suite is standard across the Golf eight range, including freeway speed auto emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control, and emergency assist.
The Golf eight also has eight airbags and secures a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating to the 2019 standards.
The VW range is covered by a five year and unlimited kilometre warranty, with included roadside assist. To bring servicing costs down, the brand offers pre-packaged 'Care Plans' which covers servicing for either three or five years at the time of purchase at $1200 or $2100 respectively.
