The Range Rover Evoque S is the entry level Evoque, priced from $62,670 before on-road costs.

The Evoque S is available with four engine options, all of which are 2.0-litre turbos driving all the wheels via a nine-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Before on-road pricing for each of the diesel engine options is $64,640 for the D150 (110kW/380Nm), $67,040 for the D180 (132kW/430Nm), and for the petrol options is $62,670 for the P200 (147kW/320Nm) and $66,840 for the P250 (183kW/365Nm).

All engine options on the S can be had with the R-Dynamic sports body kit for $1680. There is an extensive options list to further customize your S from there.

Standard equipment on the S includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-inch multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support as well as built-in sat nav, leather interior with 10-way electrically adjustable front seats, manually adjustable climate control, a six-speaker stereo, auto-dimming rear view mirror, LED headlights, a reversing camera as well as front and rear parking sensors.

The new Evoque range carries a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating and has auto emergency braking (AEB), lane keep assist (LKAS) and traffic sign recognition as standard.

Other safety items can be optionally added, but for the most comprehensive suite the ‘Driver Assist Pack’ bundles blind-spot monitoring (BSM), rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), higher-speed auto emergency braking and adaptive cruise control together. The pack costs $2840 on the S.

All Evoques also have front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and ISOFIX child-seat mounting points on the outboard rear seats.

Land Rover offers a three-year/100,000km warranty and servicing is condition-based but at least 12-monthly for the new Evoque range.

Despite studying ancient history and law at university, it makes sense Tom ended up writing about cars, as he spent the majority of his waking hours finding ways to drive as many as possible. His fascination with automobiles was also accompanied by an affinity for technology growing up, and he is just as comfortable tinkering with gadgets as he is behind the wheel. His time at CarsGuide has given him a nose for industry news and developments at the forefront of car technology.
