Cupra’s unorthodox approach to the Australian market is deliberate, and perhaps best exemplified by the newest addition to the Leon range - the Leon Sportstourer VZe.
This plug-in hybrid warmed-up wagon has few direct rivals and pushes against the modern trend for SUVs.
Priced from $69,990 (plus on-road costs) the Leon Sportstourer VZe comes equipped with 19-inch black and copper alloys, LED headlights and tail-lights, a power tailgate with handsfree opening and black roof rails. Inside it gets leather-appointed sports seats, heated front seats and steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, native navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus the 12-speaker Sennheiser stereo.
The Leon VZe Sportstourer is powered by a 200kW/400Nm plug-in hybrid system, which combines a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor and 20kWh battery. This allows for a claimed fuel economy of just 0.4L/100km as well as up to 121km of electric-only driving range.
Like all Cupra models, the Leon S is covered by a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty. Servicing is required every 12 months/15,000km, whichever comes first, and Cupra is offering a servicing pack special until the end of 2025, of $1990 for five years.
