Holden Astra 2008: Faulty inhibitor switch for the gearbox
By Graham Smith · 11 Jan 2019

I had the alternator and battery replaced in our 2008 Holden Astra about 18 months ago. On occasions recently the battery has been dead flat and will not start. The battery light came on for several days, but would still start.
Returned to repairer who tested battery/alternator as working normally, but found the inhibitor switch for the gearbox to be faulty. When the car doesn't start it ticks, but does not kick over. Would this occur if the inhibitor switch were faulty?

Ford Courier 2003: Runs rough
By Graham Smith · 11 Jan 2019

My 2003 Ford Courier runs smoothly when started up, but after about a minute it runs roughly, until it is warmed up then it is smooth again. I have put new glow plugs and sensor in, also new temperature sensor, but the problem still exists. Could it be the computer?

Renault Clio 2016: Dealership can't fix my car
By Graham Smith · 11 Jan 2019

I have a 2016 Renault Clio RS. Since it had 1000 km on the ODO, it has indicated a ‘Check Ignition’ issue and the ‘Spanner Icon’ on the dash. The car has been back to Renault six times to have this resolved, having sensors replaced and recently having the ECU replaced, where the car was not available for four weeks. The car has now presented the same problem some 800 km after having the ECU replaced. We don't trust this vehicle anymore and Renault can't seem to solve the issue. Where do I stand and what rights do I have?

Ford Ranger: Clunky transmission
By Graham Smith · 11 Jan 2019

I have a PX Ford Ranger Mark 2 XLT auto that is almost out of warranty. Sometimes it doesn’t select Drive or Reverse, and when finally it does it makes a loud CLUNK. I took it to my local dealer this time last year and they reset all the computers, but it has just started happening again, and I am taking it in next week for a warranty check.

How do I go about any future problems after the warranty period expires if they can't fix the issue?

Mercedes-Benz GLA 200: Oil leak
By Graham Smith · 04 Jan 2019

The Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 I purchased new in January 2015 has done 27,000 km. In April when serviced by my local mechanic he said it had a main seal oil leak. I contacted the local Mercedes dealer to check and they stated it was acceptable and to bring back in 2000 km.

It has just done the 2000 km and I notice it is leaking on ground, but is not using oil by dipstick. It only had a 3-year warranty, so was out of warranty January 2018. Am I able to get Mercedes to cover repairs due to minimal kilometres on the car?

Ford Fiesta 2011: Broken transmission
By Graham Smith · 04 Jan 2019

I think the transmission in my 2011 Ford Fiesta is shot. I queried Ford when I had just bought the car and never heard back from them. I knew the Focus had problems, but didn’t know the Fiesta did as well. Is it only dual-clutches, or all transmissions?

Skoda Superb: Cruise control failure
By Graham Smith · 21 Dec 2018

I bought a new Skoda Superb wagon in February and love it. It was going great up to couple of months ago when the Auto Cruise Control/Front Assist failed. When I took the car in for its 15,000 km service, they said that the radar was broken and that can only happen if there has been some sort of frontal impact, and quoted me $2700 to replace and repair it. They even removed the front bumper to try and identify if any work had been done on the car (and they concluded there wasn't). There have been no incidents whatsoever; the only way for the radar to be broken without any impact is for it to have been defective from the beginning.

Skoda won't accept that, they are still saying it has been 'hit'.
