Subaru launched the first-generation Subaru Trailseeker large SUV globally in 2026. The initial design brief focused heavily on offering zero-emission motoring without sacrificing the all-terrain capability of traditional wagons. It aimed to provide regional and suburban families with a spacious five-seat layout, high ground clearance and dual-motor capability.

It leverages a dedicated high-voltage platform co-developed with Toyota. This architecture incorporates a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery package and dual electric motors producing 280kW of power. Structural updates emphasise lower, wider packaging compared to boxier rivals while maintaining a permanent all-wheel-drive system.

The vehicle wears the Subaru Trailseeker badge in the Australian market. North American and European showrooms distribute the same vehicle under closely related global nomenclature to match local fleet line-ups. Positioned as a premium electric alternative to the petrol-powered Outback, it competes directly against mid-tier electric family wagons.

Subaru Trailseeker Accessories

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker AWD receives LED headlights, a hands-free power tailgate, 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless chargers, a digital rear-view mirror and synthetic leather upholstery as standard.

Stepping up to the AWD Touring trim brings larger 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass sunroof with a retractable cover, 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, interior vehicle-to-load (V2L) port, as well as blue and black leather-accented upholstery.

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker's interior is dominated by a 14.0-inch central touchscreen multimedia system which is shared with the Solterra, as well as the related Toyota bZ4X and bZ4X Touring.

There's also a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster that's mounted far up on the dashboard, almost like a head-up display.

Looking elsewhere around the cabin there are two wireless chargers, two cupholders, a shallow storage shelf under the centre console where there are two USB-C ports, plus a side-hinging centre console box.

Like the Solterra, the Trailseeker does not have a glove box on the passenger side.

Subaru Trailseeker Seats

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is offered with a five-seat only despite it being roughly the same size as a Kia Sorento.

The entry-level model comes with black synthetic leather upholstery, whereas the top-spec Touring trim gets blue and black leather-appointed upholstery.

Front-seat heating is standard across the line-up, but you pick up ventilation in the Touring trim.

The rear outboard seats also offer heating as standard across the line-up.

Subaru Trailseeker Boot Space

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker offers 609L of boot space in the entry-level trim and 595L in the top-spec Touring trim with the rear seats upright. The difference is due to the Harman Kardon subwoofer being located in the latter's boot.

With the rear seats folded this expands to 1694L and 1680L, respectively.

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is capable of doing the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds, making it the fastest production Subaru car ever offered in Australia.

Subaru doesn't list an official top speed but it should easily travel at least 150km/h.

Subaru Trailseeker Range

The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker has a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack sourced from CATL.

WLTP claimed range for the entry-level trim is 533km, which shrinks down to 488km in the flagship AWD Touring trim due in part to the larger 20-inch alloy wheels.

WLTP claimed combined energy consumption is 15.4kWh/100km and 16.8kWh/100km, respectively. This allows for a theoretical driving range of 444km to 485km, depending on the trim level.
