The CX-5 is the one that gets The Tick. You should only go for diesel for heavy towing or if you drive more than 30,000km a year.
There is a lot more to car choice than one safety aspect. If you're not happy about one missing feature, you should look further into the class at something like the Mazda CX-5 which I give The Tick.
The Mazda CX-5 is my top pick and I also like the Hyundai ix35 for value, the Honda CR-V as a city runabout, and the base-model Subaru Forester as a family car.
The Tiguan is good enough, but Mazda's CX-5 is even better.
The CX-5 is the best vehicle in your line-up and gets The Tick from me.
I am not remotely a fan of the Trax. I'd suggest a test drive in a Mazda CX-5, which is best in class and gets The Tick, and then compare it with a couple of worthy rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage. Or wait for the new wave of baby SUVs including the Mazda CX-3 and Renault Captur
The CX-5 is best in class but the Volvo is a class above, in the prestige category. Both get The Tick from me, but if price is not a problem I'd go for the XC60.
I am not a great fan of the Q3. The CX-5 gets The Tick and has also just had a slight update with several improvements. The Mazda is also bigger and cheaper, which makes it a no-brainer for me.
A compact SUV will probably be better for her but I'd put the Mazda CX-5 - which gets The Tick - well ahead of the Qashqai.
The reputation of the XV is great but, for me, it's too small in the boot and the CVT auto takes the edge off the performance.
