I am looking at buying a small SUV as all the new models seem to be getting larger. What do you think of the Holden Trax compared to the other similar size SUVs and what would be the best engine, the 1.8 or the 1.4 turbo for both performance and fuel. As I also will be doing some long trips would I be better off looking for something with a larger engine.

I am not remotely a fan of the Trax. I'd suggest a test drive in a Mazda CX-5, which is best in class and gets The Tick, and then compare it with a couple of worthy rivals such as the Honda CR-V and Kia Sportage. Or wait for the new wave of baby SUVs including the Mazda CX-3 and Renault Captur
