You're a member of a large club. I would approach Holden with the view of having them replace the gearbox for free as they have done with many other Cruze owners. Because of the age of the car, they might not replace it for free; they're more likely to make you an offer to cover part of the cost of replacing the car.

The dreaded Cruze transmission problem strikes again. If you bought the car new go to Holden and seek their agreement to fix it, which I would expect them to do. If you bought it secondhand you can also ask them to fix it, but it will come down to how generous they are feeling.

Holden Cruze transmission failure

We have had numerous reports of transmission failures on the Cruze and you would suspect that yours has suffered a similar failure. You could try and recoup your money, but I would guess it's too late and you wouldn't be successful. If you do choose to do it talk to your Holden dealer and ask them to submit a claim to Holden.

Differences between Cruze transmissions

I reckon you could fit it, but I would recommend you seek the advice of an automatic transmission mechanic who should be able to tell you about any pitfalls of such a transplant.

Yes, I believe you can, and should approach Holden with a request to contribute to the cost of replacing the transmission, perhaps even to cover the whole cost of the job. It is a flaw with the transmission, as we have seen with so many others with that model Cruze. Go directly to Holden’s customer service people and lodge a claim. But you will have trouble with getting money from Holden if your mechanic has done any work on the car.

Cruze transmission problem (Part 17)

You should contact Holden and request their assistance in covering the cost of the new transmission. Even though the factory warranty has expired Holden still has responsibilities under statutory warranty laws, and this is a well-known and common problem with the Cruze.

Cruze transmission problem (Part 15)
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 27 Nov 2015

With the age of the car and the fact that it is out of warranty, you're largely in the hands of Holden and their willingness to cover repairs out of "good will". I would press the company to come good with a repair to the transmission cooler on the same basis of good will. The oil leak is another matter, I wouldn't bother to seek a good will payment for that, it's too minor a problem to be bothered with. Just fix it.

Cruze transmission failure
Answered by Graham Smith · 15 Jul 2016

Transmission troubles are common with the Cruze of that vintage, and you're right, it will be expensive to replace the transmission. The only thing you could try is to contact Holden and see if they would come to the party and help with the cost of repairs, given that it is such a common problem. While saying that I don't fancy your chances of getting any help.

You need to get it fixed, without doing that you car is seriously devalued. I would approach Holden, either through your Holden dealer or directly through the company's Customer assistance service and try and negotiate a deal to have the gearbox replaced.
