Introduced in 2022, the GWM Cannon Alpha was a major step up for Chinese automaker Great Wall, who arrived in Australia back in the mid-2000s with the budget-freindly V240 ute.
The GMW Cannon is still very much on the affordable end of the Australia ute segment, though it is proof the brand has matured significantly, offering more tech, a better drivetrain and a sleeker design.
The line-up currently starts at $50,490 for the Cannon Alpha Lux (4X4) and ranges through to $66,990 for the range-topping Cannon Alpha Ultra Phev (4X4).
'Marble White' paint is standard for the GWM Cannon Alpha range. Metallic paint, including 'Crystal Black', 'Storm Grey', 'Onyx Silver' and 'Lunar Red' costs an extra $595.
At a minimum all Cannon Alphas feature synthetic leather seats, with six-way electric adjustment for the driver and four-way electric adjustment on the front passenger seat, while upper spec Alphas get leather-accented seats, which are eight-way power-adjustable for the driver (plus position memory and lumbar support) and six-way power-adjustable for the front passenger.
All Cannon Alphas have dual zone climate control, front and rear row USB outlets, plus a 12.3-inch digital cluster as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Upper spec Alphas get a 14.6-inch multimedia screen.
These utes have an overhauled centre console with two new larger tablet-style screens surrounded by woodgrain-style trim. Upper-spec Alphas have a new three-spoke synthetic leather-accented steering wheel and soft front and rear seats.
The GWM Cannon Alpha range includes a choice of 2.4L turbo-diesel engine, 2.0L turbo-petrol hybrid or 2.0L turbo petrol plug-in hybrid.
