The Ford Mustang Mach-E launched globally in 2020 as the brand’s first mass-produced electric SUV. It was designed to carry the Mustang name into the EV era while offering the practicality of a family car. In North America and Europe it was sold simply as the Mustang Mach-E, with no alternative naming used in major markets.

Ford updated the Mustang Mach-E in 2022 with improved range, faster charging and software upgrades delivered over the air. New performance-focused variants such as the GT also arrived, giving the SUV stronger acceleration and handling to match its Mustang badge. By this stage it had become a core part of Ford’s global electrification strategy.

Today the Ford Mustang Mach-E remains a key rival to models like the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5. It has established itself as a standalone model within the Mustang family, balancing electric innovation with brand heritage.

The line-up currently starts at $64,990 for the Mustang Mach-E Select and ranges through to $97,990 for the range-topping Mustang Mach-E Gt.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Interior

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a coupe SUV, so is a five-seater crossover that’s closer to a BMW X3 than the less-boxy BMW X4.

Updated for 2025, the dashboard continues with a 15.5-inch portrait-orientated centre display touchscreen, but loses the Series 1’s rotary gear selector for an easier-to-operate column shifter, increasing centre-console storage in the process.

Comfy front seats, ahead of a super-clear instrument pod, helping make for a great driving position, along with a simple and intuitive multimedia system that has a big volume knob and voice control as part of Ford’s excellent SYNC 4A operating system.

Storage is abundant, ventilation is ample, there are handy USB ports, and the fit and finish quality first class in these Mexican-made Mustangs. But the driving mode controls are lost in the touchscreen menu, the glass ceiling has no sun blockout (though UV rays can’t get through) and there are no paddle shifters to control regenerative braking. It’s also looking dated in there.

The rear seat area is roomy for a coupe SUV, the backrests and cushions provide lots of support, and you’ll find air vents, USB outlets, overhead lighting, grab handles, coat hooks, cup/small bottle holders and centre armrest.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Boot Space

The Mustang Mach-E delivers 402 litres of cargo capacity, that extends out to 1420L with the split-fold back seats dropped. There’s also storage under the floor, but annoyingly, no spare wheel. Just a tyre-inflation kit, which is not satisfactory.

Existing owners will also notice a noticeably smaller ‘frunk’ area under the bonnet, where storage has plummeted from 134L to just 49L due to the newly-fitted heat pump that, at least helps boost efficiency.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Speed

The Ford Mustang Mach-E Select RWD scoots from 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds and the Premium RWD shaves 0.1s off that time. Both are speed limited to 180km/h.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT AWD flagship sprints from zero to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 200km/h.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Range

The Ford Mustang Mach-E Select RWD Standard Range has an official European consumption average of 18.5kWh/100km. The Premium RWD Extended Range drops that down to 17.7kWh/100km and the GT delivers 21.0kWh/100km.

Two distinct battery packs are offered, depending on grade.

The Select features a (useable) 71kWh Lithium Ferro phosphate (LFP) battery, for 470km of WLTP driving range. Premium and GT models switch to an 88kWh and 91kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) unit, bumping range up to 600km and 515km respectively.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Engine

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is basically a rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive EV, with the main traction unit now an in-house design for 2026. Over the rear axle on the base Select and mid-range Premium is a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, producing 212kW of power and 525Nm of torque, driving the rear wheels via a single-speed reduction gear transmission.

Meanwhile, with an electric motor added on to the front axle, Mustang Mach-E GT is all-wheel drive, and delivers a combined 434kW of power and 955Nm of torque for 2026, representing a big hike in performance.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Seats

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a five-seater coupe SUV. The front seats are finished in an imitation leather upholstery in the base Select and mid-range Premium, and are powered and heated.

Interestingly, the performance flagship GT has bolstered sports seats, that preclude the fitment of a front-centre airbag, reducing its airbag count to nine.

The rear seats seat three, are fixed in their position except for the 60:40-split backrest, that folds down to increase cargo capacity into the Mach-E’s cabin.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Accessories

For 2026, the Ford Mustang Mach-E Select Single Motor RWD gains adaptive LED lighting and a heat pump to boost efficiency (though WLTP range remains steady at 470km), adding to a long list of standard kit that includes synthetic leather upholstery, powered and heated front seats, a glass roof, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a 15.5-inch touchscreen, 360-degree-view camera, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, 10-speaker premium audio, a wireless charger, a powered tailgate and 19-inch alloys.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium Extended Range adds a bigger battery, ambient lighting and a few other luxuries, while the GT performance flagship boasts all these plus a now-much-more-powerful dual-motor for 2026, as well as continuing with all-wheel drive (AWD), adaptive dampers, bolstered sports seats, 20-inch alloys and more.
