The Forester range opens with two versions of the L specification. The L is available with either a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving all four wheels. The boxer four produces 110kW and 198Nm The claimed combined fuel figures are 7.2L/100km for the petrol.
The petrol is the first step on the Forester ladder at an entirely reasonable $30,240. Standard are 17-inch alloy wheels, Subaru's Starlink 7.0-inch media system with a set of six speakers, Bluetooth and USB, dual-zone climate control, auto headlights and wipers, cloth trim and a full-size spare.
The five-star ANCAP safety rating comes courtesy of seven airbags, ABS, stability and traction controls and three top-tether baby seat anchors and two ISOFIX points.
