The second rung up the Mazda CX-30 2020 model range ladder is the G20 Evolve, which has a list price of $31,490 plus on-road costs.
It builds upon the equipment in the base model Pure, with 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, rear seat air vents, rear arm-rest with cup holders, and a leather-bound steering wheel with paddle shifters.
That’s beyond the list of stuff you get in the base car: push-button start, rear spoiler, tyre pressure monitoring, LED headlights, halogen daytime running lights (DRLs), a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a colour head-up display, an 8.8-inch multimedia system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity (but no touchscreen), eight speaker stereo, and a 7.0-inch driver information display.
Safety spec for all CX-30 models is strong. There’s standard auto emergency braking (AEB) system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, auto high-beam headlights, rear cross traffic alert, traffic sign recognition and driver drowsiness warning. All CX-30 models have six airbags (dual front, front side, curtain).
There’s also an optional safety pack, known as Vision Technology ($1500 on Evolve) which comprises a 360-degree surround view camera, front parking sensors, a system called Cruising and Traffic support (with a degree of semi-autonomous driving at lower speeds), a driver monitoring camera and front cross traffic alert.
The G20 part of the CX-30 Evolve’s name denotes a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 114kW of power and 200Nm of torque. G20 models are front-wheel drive only, and it has a six-speed automatic transmission as standard. Fuel use is rated at 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres.
