The top-of the range model in the Mazda CX-30 2020 range is the Astina model.

The CX-30 Astina comes with the choice of the G20 2.0-litre petrol engine (114kW/200Nm) with 2WD and a six-speed auto, or the G25 2.5-litre petrol engine with 139kW and 252Nm - plus it is available with the choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

The Astina is the most loaded of the model range, but it comes at a cost. The CX-30 G20 2WD Astina is $38,990 plus on-road costs, while the CX-30 G25 2WD will set you back $41,490, and the G25 AWD is a $43,490 prospect.

Over the Touring it adds a 12-speaker Bose stereo and the choice of black or white leather, depending on the exterior colour chosen, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the G25 Astina also adds a tilt and slide sunroof (not a panoramic glass roof - the G20 misses out). Plus there are full LED headlights and daytime running lights (the latter being halogen on lower grades)

However, the Astina also scores the Vision Technology Pack (which costs $1300 on the Touring and $1500 on the lower grade models) as standard, and it adds a surround-view monitor with 360 degree camera, front cross-traffic alert, driver monitor and ‘Cruising & Traffic Support’ (CTS) - a semi-autonomous mode for speeds up to 60km/h.

And that’s above what else is standard: 18-inch wheels, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a colour head-up display, auto-dimming rearview mirror, an 8.8-inch multimedia system with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity (but no touchscreen), and a 7.0-inch driver information display.

Safety spec for all CX-30 models is strong. There’s standard auto emergency braking (AEB) system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist, auto high-beam headlights, rear cross traffic alert, traffic sign recognition and driver drowsiness warning. All CX-30 models have six airbags (dual front, front side, curtain).
