BMW has strengthened its X1 line-up in Australia, announcing the arrival of the special-edition sDrive18i Sport Collection.
Starting at $72,990 drive-away, the X1 sDrive18i Sport Collection will charge a modest premium over the base X1 sDrive18i, which starts at $67,695 drive-away in NSW, but will add an array of additional standard equipment in return.
Headlining those upgrades is standard M Sport packaging, marking the first time the performance packaging has ever been included on an entry-grade X1. It adds large cooling inlets at the front, a rear diffuser and adaptive M suspension.
Additionally, BMW has standardised exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels in a double-spoke, bi-colour design, a panoramic glass roof, aluminium cabin trims, as well as power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats with memory and heating functions.
There are also four no-cost metallic paint options: Black Sapphire, Mineral White, Space Silver or M Portimao Blue, while BMW has deleted variant-specific badging for a cleaner exterior look.
The X1 sDrive18i Sport Collection will continue to be powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which sends up to 115kW/230Nm to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
BMW has sold 1660 examples of the X1 so far this year, an increase of 27.3 per cent compared to the same period last year. It maintains a firm lead over the Mercedes-Benz GLA (983), Audi Q3 (798) and Volvo XC40 (763).
