Bigger engine for rugged ute and SUV: Japanese brand to tackle emissions standards with new engine and drive-away pricing specials for 2026 Isuzu D-Max and MU-X, as it gears up to battle Ford Ranger and Everest

Isuzu has replaced its smaller engine option in both its D-Max ute and its MU-X SUV, with a new 2.2-litre engine coming in to join the larger 3.0-litre.

It brings with it a new set of specifications and pricing for the 2026 Isuzu D-Max ute and for its MU-X sibling, with the brand also having altered the variant line-up.

The update also brings a new eight-speed automatic transmission for variants fitted with the 2.2-litre engine, as well as a stop-start system across the D-Max and MU-X range.

Isuzu has also culled the manual gearbox from the line-up, meaning the entry price to the D-Max range is now noticeably higher. Now $36,200 before on-road costs, the cheapest automatic D-Max in SX grade is $3500 more than the previous manual offering.

The LS-M variant has also been cut from the range.

Isuzu has also confirmed limited-time launch pricing with drive-away specials for 4X2 D-Max 2.2 Single Cab Chassis ($36,990 DA), 4X4 D-Max X-Rider Crew ($56,990), 2.2L MU-X 4x2 LS-M ($48,990) and 2.2L MU-X 4x4 LS-T ($69,990).
