The 2024 Volkswagen Touareg range of configurations is currently priced from $74,990.
Our most recent review of the 2024 Volkswagen Touareg resulted in a score of 7.4 out of 10 for that particular example.
Carsguide Deputy News Editor Tom White had this to say at the time: A car as impressive as it is frustrating, the Touareg R is a vehicle for a very specific buyer. Someone whose daily commute consists of limited distances, someone who can always charge at home overnight and someone who appreciates the subtlety of the performance and luxury the Touareg brings.

This is what Tom White liked most about this particular version of the Volkswagen Touareg: Technically very impressive, Luxurious interior, Absolutely packed with stuff
The 2024 Volkswagen Touareg carries a braked towing capacity of up to 3500 Kg, but check to ensure this applies to the configuration you're considering.
A VW dealership can carry out a test that will reveal whether there’s wear in the transmission’s clutch packs. Based on the result of this test, the question of whether the transmission is within tolerance or not should be pretty black and white. If you’re still not happy, have the vehicle independently inspected (your state motoring club is a good place to start) for a second opinion.
While you should not be fobbed off by the dealership, it’s true this type of transmission can take some acclimatisation on the part of the driver. We’re not saying you should have to learn how to drive again, but these dual-clutch transmissions can take a little technique if you’re to get the best from them. However, when a characteristic transitions into an actual problem, you need to be on top of it.

The dual-clutch transmission in your Touareg is a wet-clutch design and, therefore, much more robust than the dry-clutch version that caused VW so much angst when it was introduced many years ago. However, even the wet-clutch unit has been known to have its problems, and the symptoms you’ve described tend to point towards worn clutch packs or the electronics that control them.
Any time a dual-clutch transmission shudders or thumps, is cause to have it scanned to check the operation of these clutch packs. It’s also likely that a cold transmission will amplify these symptoms. A VW dealer can carry out this test and the results will give you a much better idea of what’s going on inside the transmission.
If it is a fault with the transmission, it should be covered by the new-car warranty. But make sure the dealer logs it with head office. That makes it a pre-existing condition so that, even if the warranty runs out, it’s still VW’s problem to fix as the problem first occurred during the warranty period.

The 2011 R-Line package for the Touareg included plenty of extra kit, so identifying one shouldn’t be a problem. Those extras started with a body kit with a deeper front spoiler, side skirts and a rear roof spoiler. The R-Line package also extended to 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, look for stainless-steel kick panels inside each door, a different steering wheel, lots of leather, aluminium gear-selector and pedals and a 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

The five-seat Volkswagen Tiguan has high quality seating. Real leather-upholstery meets 18-way power adjustment and three-stage heating at the very least.
An optional pack brings seat ventilation, easy-access and even a massage function with plusher 'Vienna' and 'Puglia' leather available on Elegance and R-Line trims.
The Touareg comes in six colours with 'Pure White' the only non-premium option.
Metallic colours, including 'Chili Red', 'Oyster Silver', 'Silicone Grey', 'Grenadillia Black' and 'Meloe Blue' cost extra. The R is exclusively available in 'Lapiz Blue'.
The Touareg is now fitted with HD Matrix LED headlights with 38,000 individual diodes, 15-inch 'Innovison' multimedia touchscreen (that finally boasts full-size wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and new design ‘Coventry’ 19-inch alloy wheels.
Dual-zone climate control and wireless charging pad round out the standard equipment list.
The 210TDI Elegance introduces 20-inch ‘Braga’ alloy wheels, air suspension with adaptive dampers and heated and ventilated seats with massage function.
The sporty R-Line gets 21-inch alloys, and R-Line body kit and steering wheel, alarm and rear privacy glass.
A 'Sound and Comfort' pack adds rear seat heating, Dynaudio premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, power-adjust steering column, head-up display, tyre pressure monitoring, soft-close doors, head-up display and an alarm.
The R gets everything above paired with 22-inch 'Estoril' alloy wheels, night vision, blue brake calipers, an exterior black pack and R-exclusive steering wheel.
The diesel variants use a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 and eight-speed automatic. The 170TDI produces 170kW at 4000 rpm and 500Nm between 1750-3000 rpm.
Choosing the 210TDI increases outputs by 40kW and 100Nm (to 210kW and 600Nm) produced at the same engine speeds.
The R combines a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6 producing 250kW with a 100kW/400Nm electric motor mounted to its ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.
Combined outputs are 340kW and 700Nm for the R.
With all five seats up the Volkswagen Touareg has a VDA-certified boot capacity of 810 litres. Folding the 40/20/40 split second row down opens up 1800L.
Two shopping bag hooks, pull-tabs to drop the rear seats, storage beneath the floor and a luggage next are fitted.
There is no space saver or full-size spare tyre in any Touareg variant.
Well screwed together with real wood trims and leather, the Touareg's interior benefits from luxury DNA (thanks Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga).
Practicalities include spacious door bins, a big glove box, two central cupholders and five USB-C charging ports.
The rear seat is comfortable with enough room for six-foot plus occupants. A generous body with means three can sit in comfort despite a raised transmission tunnel.
The Volkswagen Touareg 210TDI's claimed 0-100km/h sprint is 8.0 seconds. That falls to 6.0 seconds for the 210TDI Elegance and R-Line.
The Touareg R is capable of getting from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.1 seconds and hitting a limited top speed of 250km/h.
The Touareg 170TDI's generous 90-litre fuel tank equips it with a 1233km driving range at 7.3L/100km. That consumption drops below 7.0L/100km on a highway for an even greater roving range.
The 210TDI's added grunt and slightly worse 7.4L/100km combined consumption sees it at 1216km from a tank.
As a plug-in hybrid the Touareg R in more complex. If you were able to get its 3.3L/100km lab figure indefinitely, you could cover 2250km from a charge and fill of its 75L tank.
In reality, a combined driving range between 700km and 850km is more likely for the petrol plug-in hybrid.
