Toyota is often never starting a trend, but when it recognises the next big thing, it often deliveries with a high-quality and competitive product.

Case in point: the Toyota Tundra. Though models like the Ram 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado have had free reign so far in Australia, Toyota has committed to converting at least a handful of Tundras to right-hand drive to see how they fair in local conditions.

With the work carried out by renowned vehicle remanufacturers Walkinshaw Group by using existing Toyota parts from the LandCruiser (which shares the same underpinnings as the Tundra), once again, expect a quality and potentially popular Toyota product hit roads in 2024.

The line-up currently starts at $155,990 for the Tundra Limited and ranges through to $172,990 for the range-topping Tundra Platinum.

Toyota Tundra Engine

The Tundra’s 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine produces 290kW of power at 5200rpm and 649Nm of torque between 2400-3600rpm. This is paired with an electric motor which adds another 36kW/250Nm, resulting in a class-leading combined output of 326kW and 790Nm.

Toyota Tundra Interior

The Toyota Tundra's interior has a spacious and airy ambience with a high standard of fit and finish. Both model grades feature predominantly grey interior hues, with subtle satin chrome and piano black highlights.

Toyota Tundra Accessories

Standard equipment for the Toyota Tundra's Limited model grade includes 20-inch alloy wheels with 265/60R20 tyres and ‘space saver’ spare, LED lighting, automatic ‘active’ front spoiler, a power tailgate, a 3500kg towing kit, front seat heating/cooling, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-speaker JBL audio system with a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen, wireless phone charging and a power sliding rear glass to name a few.

The top-shelf Platinum adds unique black-painted 20-inch alloys, a mesh grille with dark chrome surround, a tailgate spoiler, a panoramic sunroof, leather-accented trim, 10-way power adjust front seats, heating/cooling for the outer rear seats, a heated steering wheel with power tilt-reach adjustment, a 10.9-inch colour head-up display and more.

Toyota Tundra Seats

The Toyota Tundra has seating for up to five occupants, with front buckets for two and a rear bench seat for three.

Toyota Tundra Speed

The Toyota Tundra can accelerate from 0-100km/h in approximately six seconds and has an electronically controlled top speed of 170km/h.

Toyota Tundra Range

Toyota does not publish fuel consumption figures for the Tundra, given its GVM exceeds 3.5 tonnes.

CarsGuide real-world testing achieved average combined consumption of 15.8L/100km, which is in the same ballpark as the mid-teen figures we've achieved in six and eight-cylinder US rivals.

So, based on our numbers, the Tundra should have a driving range of around 800km from its big 122-litre tank, which according to Toyota requires 95 RON petrol.
