Porsche shored up its future by building and selling its first SUV, the Cayenne, which was a departure from its usual range of traditional sports cars.
The company then capitalised on the SUV explosion by offering a smaller SUV called the Macan. With its first generation based on a heavily reworked version of the same platform that underpins the Audi Q5, the Macan offers a wide array of engines including a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre and 3.6-litre V6, as well as a twin turbo-diesel.
Current prices range from $95,100 to $187,600 for the Macan (base) and Macan Electric Turbo.
No matter what engine, all Macans are equipped with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch (PDK in Porsche's language) gearbox.
The 2027 Porsche Macan is available in basic contrast shades of Black and White. Buyers can select metallic options like Ice Grey, Dolomite Silver, Volcano Gray and Jet Black for an extra cost of $1800. Premium paint choices include Gentian Blue Metallic, Provence, Frozen Blue Metallic, Lugano Blue and Carmine Red which will set you back an extra $2880.
The 2027 Porsche Macan offers multiple cabin design themes including a standard black layout, a Race-Tex (synthetic suede) interior with leather elements, and a black leather package with a Turbonite interior package. Material highlights range from smooth leather steering wheel rims and artificial leather console armrests to brushed aluminium in black or carbon finish trim strips on the dashboard and doors. Accent packages can be optioned in Silvershade, black or Turbonite to add distinct trim lines across the front doors and dashboard.
The 2027 Porsche Macan entry grade features a single Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor on the rear axle that produces a maximum power of 260kW and 563Nm of torque with Launch Control. Higher grades have a motor on both the front and rear axles to provide an all-wheel drive layout. Output figures scale up to 285kW/650Nm for the Macan 4, 330kW and 955Nm for the Macan 4S, 380kW and 820Nm for the Macan GTS and 430kW and 1130Nm for the flagship Macan Turbo.
You’d think this would be a fairly simple question to answer, but in reality, it’s far from it. It seems neither BMW nor Porsche offer what we know as fixed or capped price servicing, that is; a known price that the service will cost, paid when you need to have it carried out. This is not uncommon with prestige brands and reflects the changing costs of imported service parts as well as different marketing approaches.
BMW, however, comes closest to this concept with what it calls its Service Inclusive Basic Plan which requires the car’s buyer to pay up front, typically for the first five years, of servicing when the car is purchased. That sounds odd, but it makes sense to buyers leasing their cars as the service costs are then paid for as part of the financing package.
In the case of the BMW X4, this package, which covers consumables such as filters, oil, spark plugs and brake fluid (but not clutches, brake pads and windscreen wipers; that’s another step up to the Service Inclusive Plus Plan) lasts for five years or 80,000km (whichever comes first) and works out to an average of $350 per service or a total of $1750 over the plan’s duration. Fundamentally, it’s like other car-makers’ capped-price servicing but you pay up front for it.
Meanwhile, at Porsche, the servicing costs for a Macan over the same 80,000km/five-year period will depend on what state you live in as labour rates vary from state to state. Since you’re from NSW, I’ll use the data from that state. As such, the Macan will need an annual service at one-year/15,000km costing $695. The next service at two years/30,000km is an intermediate service at $995, followed by another annual service at three years/45,000km ($695 again). The four-year/60,000km service is a major one costing $1750, followed by the five- year/75,000km service at $695 to end with. In total, that’s a grand total of $4830, making the Porsche by far the most expensive car to service for those first five years.

It could well be a software problem, as the Porsche people have told you, so let the experts do their investigations, and hopefully come up with a fix. There’s no point in trying to second-guess what it might be.

Luggage space in the 2027 Porsche Macan varies depending on the model grade. Lower specification models provide a rear cargo capacity of 540 litres with the rear seats in place. Flagship variants offer a slightly reduced rear luggage capacity of 480 litres when all seats are occupied.
Standard equipment for the 2027 Porsche Macan includes a 10.9-inch touchscreen display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay alongside a 12.6-inch curved instrument display. Higher variants upgrade the audio experience from a 150-Watt Sound Package Plus to a 14-speaker 710W Bose surround sound system. The range steps up from standard 20-inch wheels on base models to 21-inch Macan Design or Turbo wheels on higher grades.
The entry grade Macan completes the 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.7 seconds, while the Macan 4 reduces this to 5.2 seconds. Moving up the range, the Macan GTS achieves 0–100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, the Macan 4S takes 3.8 seconds, and the top-tier Macan Turbo does it in 3.3 seconds.
The 2027 Porsche Macan features a five-seat cabin layout with a 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench seat that includes a folding centre armrest and cupholder. Up front, there's 14-way electrically adjustable comfort seats with a memory package as a no-cost option on select grades, or 18-way adaptive sports seats. The sporty Macan GTS adds distinct styling badges in Black on the front headrests.
Every 2027 Porsche Macan has a high-voltage battery pack with a gross capacity of 100kWh and a net usable capacity of 96kWh. The entry grade Macan has a driving range of 643km, the Macan 4 is 615km, 4S is 617km, GTS is 614 and Turbo is 611, according to Porsche. Replenishing the battery from 10 to 80 per cent takes 46 minutes when using a 120kW DC fast charger, or 21 minutes when connected to a DC charging station operating at maximum charging power.
