They call him Peter Perfect and after his domination of the '79 Bathurst, it's easy to see why.
To many this is the ultimate Bathurst moment as no other driver since has won the great race by such a large margin.
By 1979, the Australian Touring Car Championship was more like Formula Torana as there weren't many challengers from Ford, even Allan Moffat was struggling to keep up with the Holden boys.
This was the same at Bathurst, seven Torana's qualified in the top 10 which should have been eight but Moffat was elevated into fourth to make things 'interesting' at John Harvey's expense.
Leading the pack were the duo of Peter Brock and Jim Richards whose qualifying time was around two seconds faster than the next car of Bob Morris.

When the race began, Brock simply walked away from the field as the likes of Allan Grice, Charlie O-Brien, John Harvey and Allan Moffat diced with each other over the minor placings.
As Brock's competitors dropped off like flies, the only challenge he faced throughout the whole 1000km was keeping his nose clean and passing slower traffic.
By the end of the race, Peter Perfect was ahead by six laps and didn't ease off the pace at any point as on the last lap he set a new lap record of 2:21.1.

This was the last time the Holden Torana raced at the mountain as the following year the Commodore became Holden's race car.
Brocky gave the Torana probably the best send off anyone could ask for.
