Mitsubishi Triton Problems

The warranty covers the car as it is delivered from the factory, any modification made to it after that can have affect it. It doesn't void the warranty completely, but it does affect the parts of the car that have been modified to fit the accessories. The bottom line is that if the accessory or its installation causes a failure on the car the warranty won't cover repairs.

They’re not required on utes. Triton GLX-Rs have one on centre of tailgate and have had since CR launch in 2006, but GLXs don't have one.

I’m surprised the dealer didn’t try and sell you a more powerful sound system! You could also check the firewall and make sure there are no gaps or openings that are letting the noise through. If there are seal them. Having made sure all is well there you could get some sound deadening material and apply under the floor covering on the firewall, floor and transmission tunnel.

It’s a great feeling when having spent many tens of thousands of dollars you get treated badly by the dealer isn’t it. Thankfully it’s not the norm, but it does happen and it shouldn’t. If I were you I would be very angry that I have been sold a car that is faulty and I would demand a replacement car, or my money back if they couldn’t fix it within a reasonable time. A week or two should be enough to come up with a fix; a year or more is ludicrous. You need to stand up for your rights.

While we often get reports of rapid brake wear, but have never had any about the Triton. You’ve obviously seen the pads and say they are not worn or discoloured, so I would be asking the dealer to justify the advice they’ve given you. One possibility is that they are glazed.

You should have walked away having seen the rust instead of going ahead and buying the car, but having bought it you’re in a bit of a pickle. You need to assemble all of the information about the car’s history that you can, and then consult an independent expert to get an opinion on the cause of the rust. It’s a little unfair on Mitsubishi to present them with a claim without any supporting documentation to back it.

Your experience is similar to other owners who have used E10. Even the biofuels people say the engine will lose some smoothness and it will use more fuel, but it really shouldn’t lose power.

There is nothing to suggest there is a problem with the Triton, but it’s worth checking the owner’s manual to familiarize yourself with any recommendations Mitsubishi makes about towing with the Triton. That way you will minimize the risks of having a problem.

Cars are equipped with the latest maps available at the time they're built, but that can be months, or more, before they are delivered to the owner. In that time delay the maps can be upgraded, which means they're out-dated before the car is handed over to the owner. That's frustrating, and while the carmakers say there is nothing they can do, perhaps they should think about installing locally the latest maps available during the pre-delivery process. That way they would be up to date when the car is delivered. That, however, doesn't overcome the problem of excessive prices being charged for any subsequent updates. Again, carmakers should look at their pricing and bring them into line with those being charged in the aftermarket. Talk to your dealer again and ask for him to request a free update from Mitsubishi.

Carmakers are locked into what their parent companies are doing, and in this case it means there was a delay in the local roll-out of the upgrade that are launched first in their home countries sometimes weeks, even a month or two, before arriving here. We understand you just missed the introduction of the upgrade to the GPS system by a week or two, but we also understand that Mitsubishi has come to the party and upgraded the system in your car for you.
