The Mahindra XUV500 was launched in 2011 as the Indian brand’s first global SUV. Built on a monocoque platform, it aimed to offer more refinement and space than Mahindra’s traditional ladder-frame models. The XUV500 was sold in right-hand and left-hand drive markets, helping Mahindra establish a stronger presence outside India, including in Australia.
A major update arrived in 2015 with refreshed styling, improved equipment and more safety technology. Mahindra also expanded its diesel engine range and introduced automatic transmission options to suit export markets. In some regions, the XUV500 was rebadged or marketed alongside smaller Mahindra SUVs as part of a wider family of crossovers.
The XUV500 remained in production until 2021, when it was effectively replaced by the larger and more modern Mahindra XUV700. While no longer sold new, the XUV500 still plays a role in Mahindra’s used car presence and helped pave the way for its newer global SUVs.
The line-up currently starts at $19,140 for the XUV500 W6 (Fwd) and ranges through to $30,360 for the range-topping XUV500 W10 (Awd).
he following Mahindra XUV500 comes with seven seats. The W6 FWD variants comes with Cloth seat trim, with Leather seats available on the W10 FWD and W10 AWD variants.
There are much better vehicles available in the Australian car market than the Mahindra XUV500. Even low-mileage second-hand four-wheel-drive SUVs would be my suggestion.
