Used Kia Sorento review: 2009-2013
By Graham Smith · 13 Oct 2015
Kia refettled the Sorento for those who understood their city limits. New Kia diverted from the bush and went closer to the 'burbs with its all-new Sorento wagon in 2009. Gone were the low-range transmissions in its four-wheel drive models — in came economy-oriented four-cylinder and front-wheel drive models. These

Holden Captiva7: Criticisms
Answered by Paul Gover · 19 Oct 2015

You might like your Captiva but we need to compare it with its direct size and price rivals. On that basis, the Captiva runs a very poor third to the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe in many areas, including ride and handling, quietness, quality and warranty.

Best replacement for Kluger?
Answered by Paul Gover · 10 Aug 2015

Looking at seven-seater SUVs, the new Kia Sorento is excellent in all areas to earn The Tick and the Nissan Pathfinder is a good choice. One of them should work for you, your budget and your towing duties.

Diesel or petrol SUV?
Answered by Paul Gover · 22 Jun 2015

The advantage of the Sorento is that it's a seven-seater, so it will have more space for a big trip. Do not go for diesel unless you travel more than 30,000km a year, otherwise it will take too long to recoup the extra cost of the engine.

Good second-hand seven-seat SUV?
Answered by Paul Gover · 06 Jul 2015

The XC90 is a very old design and one at that price might be a bit doubtful. Your best choice would be a Kia or Hyundai, which are far better than you might think and may even have some factory warranty at your budget.

Best in seven-seater class?
Answered by Paul Gover · 14 Sep 2015

Definitely not the Journey; the Territory is solid and good value; but my current favourite in the class is the Kia Sorento. It gets The Tick and is well worth the extra, even though the starting price of $40,990 is well beyond the $33,500 base of the Journey.

Is auto emergency braking necessary?
Answered by Carsguide.com.au · 21 Dec 2015

The Sorento has a five-star ANCAP safety rating. Auto safety braking is great to have but it will be some years before it is fitted to all new models.

What SUV is best for occasional towing?
Answered by Paul Gover · 10 Aug 2015

You should drive and compare the CX-5, the long-term leader in its class, and the new Tucson. Don’t go for seven seats unless you really need them because of the extra price and ongoing penalty in running costs.

Updating a Falcon XR6?
Answered by Paul Gover · 07 Dec 2015

The Sorento has just been voted the 2015 Car of the Year so it gets The Tick from me. There is an all-new CX-9 next year and a Santa Fe update soon. Today, the order is Sorento, Outback, Santa Fe and CX-9.
