We have gathered all of the most frequently asked questions and problems relating to the 2009 Holden Calais in one spot to help you decide if it's a smart buy.

Good price for Calais?

The guiding range if it were sold privately would be $14,000-$16,000.If it were traded in it would be valued at $11,000-$13,000. On average a 2009 Calais would be expected to have done 80,000-130,000 km. The car you are considering has done considerably more kays than the average 2009 model, but at $10,000 it’s priced well under the market value. You should check for oil consumption, there have been reports of the 6.0-litre V8 using oil. Apart from that it comes to condition.

Holden Calais oil problem

They do have problems; you are not alone. But you shouldn't be left with the problems, as you have reported the issues and they are being dealt with. I would keep the pressure up on the dealer and Holden to ensure they don't drop the ball.

Farewell to Calais

HOLDEN tells us it is taking this problem seriously and looking into every complaint, but so far we haven't had any meaningful explanation. The problem seems to affect cars with lots of electrical features -- such as your Calais. Keep the pressure on the dealer and in turn on Holden to come up with a solution.

Black Future for VE

BLACK cars tend to absorb heat more and get hotter in the sun. They can take more work to keep clean and scratches and scuffmarks show up more. For those reasons the resale value of black cars can be lower. Other than that, there are no specific problems with them.

Wheels deals

WE CONTACTED Holden for clarification and received the following corporate response: ``Wheels and tyres are engineered and carefully selected for release. This is done in accordance with all ADRs and takes into consideration many criteria including tyre and axle loading for each particular model. Though similar, each model within a range is not identical. Accessory wheels are only tested for specific models and therefore any deviation from this is considered a modification and not endorsed by Holden. It should be noted that there is an HSVi 19-inch Supersport wheel that has been validated and is released as an accessory wheel for the Calais V-Series Sportwagon. For further detail, please contact your Holden dealer.'' Before you sign a waiver seek the advice of a solicitor on their validity under the law.

No need for speed

Good point. In my view the marketing people are driving it. They seem to think it's a way of impressing owners and prospective owners with the performance of their cars. Also, manufacturers should take a long, hard look at the graphics on instruments. Some are very hard to read in daylight.
