The alternative luxury sedan from Genesis is a hire car driver’s favourite.
The G80 straddles the line between your BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 executives and the ultra-lux S-Class and 7 Series with plenty of interior space and leather at a reasonable price.
A fully-electric version, known as the G80 Electrified, is offered with a quirky solar panel roof to minimise charge loss when parked.
The line-up currently starts at $104,200 for the G80 2.5T Signature and ranges through to $155,000 for the range-topping G80 Electrified Signature.

The standard Genesis G80 is an exceptionally well-equipped luxury sedan for the money. Standard features include electric front seats with heated/vented elements, a massaging function, memory switches and an ottoman-style base extender. The outboard rear seats also are powered, recline and are heated/vented. All are finished in Nappa leather upholstery while the ceiling boasts suede lining.

The Genesis G80 range is offered with a choice of three powertrains.
The 2.5T is powered by a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. It makes 224kW of power at 5800rpm and 422Nm of torque from 1650-4000rpm.
The 3.5T AWD is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, producing 279kW of power at 5800rpm and 530Nm of torque between 1300-4500rpm.
Finally, the G80 Electrified is powered by two electric motors, making a combined 272kW of power and 700Nm of torque.
The Genesis G80 2.5T RWD can go from zero to 100km/h (0-100km/h) in about 6.0 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 240km/h.
The Genesis G80 3.5T AWD can go from zero to 100km/h (0-100km/h) in about 4.9 seconds in Launch Control mode and 5.1 seconds in normal driving modes, on the way to a top speed of 250km/h.
The Genesis G80 Electrified electric vehicle (EV) can go from zero to 100km/h (0-100km/h) in about 5.1 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 225km/h.
The Genesis G80 2.5T has a combined average fuel consumption of 9.0 litres per 100km. With a 65-litre fuel tank capacity it should be able to average over 720km of range.
