Volkswagen Polo Trendline 2018 review: snapshot

The Polo 70TSI Trendline has steel wheels as standard.
EXPERT RATING

The 70TSI Trendline marks the entry point to this sixth-generation Polo range, and will set you back $17,990 (five-speed manual) or $20,490 (seven-speed dual-clutch auto).

The 70TSI Trendline marks the entry point to this sixth-generation Polo range, and will set you back $17,990 (five-speed manual) or $20,490 (seven-speed dual-clutch auto). Better still, they’re the drive-away prices.

You do need to make some concessions at that price, though, so expect steel wheels as standard, along with cloth seats, a lovely, flat-bottomed leather wheel, central locking, air-conditioning, cruise control and electric mirrors.

The Trendline makes use of a tiny, turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine good for 70kW at 5000rpm and 175Nm at 2000rpm - enough to produce a fairly leisurely 0-100km/h sprint of 10.8 seconds.

Happily, it’s a strong safety story, with the five-star ANCAP rated Polo arriving with six airbags, a reversing camera, parking sensors and AEB with pedestrian detection.
