The Skoda Scala 2021 hatchback range kicks off with the entry-level 110TSI model.

The 110TSI nameplate is familiar from the world of Volkswagen, and it’s a VW-sourced 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine under the bonnet, too. With 110kW of power (as the name suggests) and 250Nm of torque, this version of the Scala is available with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission

The Scala is a front-wheel drive (FWD/2WD) hatchback, and has claimed fuel consumption of 4.9 litres per 100 kilometres for the manual version and 5.5L/100km for the automatic. The engine has start-stop tech, and also a fuel-saving cylinder deactivation system that can make ir run on two cylinders under light loads.

The price for the 110TSI model depends on the transmission you choose. Skoda has the manual version on list pricing / MSRP at $27,690, while the dual-clutch auto has a list/MSRP of $28,690. Oddly, the brand launched the Scala with drive-away pricing, too - the manual is $26,990 and the auto is $28,990.

Standard equipment for the 110TSI includes a few intriguing features such 18-inch alloy wheels (a space saver spare wheel), an electric tailgate, halogen headlights, fog lights, LED rear lighting with dynamic indicators, tinted privacy glass, an 8.0-inch touchscreen media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, wireless phone charging, a 10.25-inch digital instrument display.

The Scala comes with four USB-C ports (2x front/2x rear), ambient lighting in red, a covered centre armrest, leather steering wheel, manual seat adjustment, tyre pressure monitoring, and the “Trunk Package” with multiple cargo nets and hooks in the boot area. Note, the base car doesn’t have a 60:40 split-fold seat back.

The 110TSI also scores a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, auto-dimming side mirrors with heating and power adjust, driver fatigue detection, lane keeping assist and AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection. There’s also low-speed rear AEB system to stop car-park bumps.

There are some optional packs available for the 110TSI. The $4300 Driver Support Pack, which adds the leather and heated seats with driver’s electric adjust, climate control air-con, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alert, and the auto-parking system. The Tech Pack ($3900) upgrades the media system to the 9.2-inch nav unit with wireless CarPlay, adds upgraded speakers, and includes full LED headlights, as well as keyless entry and push-button start.

You can also option a panoramic glass roof for $1300.
