The 2008 Active is now the entry level to the three model compact SUV range, starting at $26,490, with the Allure sitting above at $30,490, and the GT-Line on top at $32,990. That's $1000 more than the outgoing model, with part of the increase accounted for by the now-standard six-speed automatic, replacing the old school four-speed (there is now no manual).

Standard equipment includes 16-inch alloys, cloth trim, six-speaker stereo and 7.0-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink (Android Auto due around June 2017), USB and Bluetooth, air-conditioning, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, electric folding door mirrors, front and rear fog lights, cruise control, leather steering wheel and cooled centre console bin.

Safety is five-star EuroNCAP level, with six airbags, ABS and stability and traction controls.

Options include $990 and $1050 for metallic and pearlescent paint respectively, and $1500 for sat nav.

Peter grew up in a house in Western Sydney where automotive passion extended to white Sigmas and Magnas. At school he discovered "those" magazines that weren't to be found in the house. Magazines that offered him the chance to sit in the driver's seat of cars he’d never even heard of let alone seen. His path to rebellion was set - he would love cars, know cars and want to write about cars, much to his family’s disgust. They wanted him to be a teacher. He bought a series of terrible cars and lusted after Ford Escort Cosworths, the Alfa Romeo 164 Q and occasionally kicked himself for selling his 1977 Alfa GTV. From 1.0-litre three cylinders to roaring V12s, Peter has driven them all and can't wait to tell you all about it.
