Peugeot's 2008 GT Hybrid is the flagship of the French maker's local premium small SUV line-up. It looks sleek and is powered by a small capacity three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine with relatively modest electrical support. For its size, the GT is spacious, drives well and is comfortable for the family on a road trip, as long as there aren't too many of you. The new Peugeot 2008 plugs the compact SUV gap the way the old one never quite did, despite being very capable. What it doesn't do is tempt the younger buyers the brand desperately wants; those who seek a sub-$30,000 entry level compact SUV, because the cheapest 2008 is the Allure, at a considerable $34,990. The brand is banking on cashed-up young 'uns liking what they see.
