The special edition is based on the Everest Sport, but ditches the V6 diesel for the four-cylinder bi-turbo found in cheaper variants.
Pricing starts from $71,190 (before on-road costs), which is about almost $5000 cheaper than the V6-powered Everest Sport. Ford has also beefed up the value by adding more standard equipment.
It now comes with the previously optional 360-degree camera, integrated trailer brake controller and trailer backup assist as standard. A tow bar and hitch also come pre-installed.
Premium paint is standard, which saves buyers $750.
Ford has only committed to building 700 examples of the Everest Sport bi-turbo.
Power comes from the familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder bi-turbo diesel engine, which produces 154kW and 500Nm and is matched to the usual 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system.
This should cut fuel use to 7.2L/100km, compared to the V6’s 8.5L/100km.
It maintains the Everest’s usual 3500kg braked towing capacity.
The special edition carries some of the Everest Sport features such as a ‘Sport’ nameplate, black exterior accents and alloy wheels.
Towing and parking is made easier with a 360-degree camera, integrated trailer brake controller and trailer backup assist as standard. A tow bar and hitch also come pre-installed.
This Everest comes in five premium colours, which are the Sport-exclusive Blue Lightning and a debuting Alabaster White that replaces Arctic White. Other colours include Shadow Black, Meteor Grey and Aluminium.
As a limited production, there are only approximately 700 units to be manufactured.
The Ford Everest is one of the top selling large off-road focused SUVs in the country, with about 17,000 sales through the first eight months of the year.
The new limited edition will give Ford a new more affordable option in its arsenal to tackle the best selling Toyota Prado, and fend off new Chinese competition such as the GWM Tank 300.
