Aussie SUV owners are getting a road-map to a rollicking good time with the release of a new book, Lonely Planet’s Atlas of Adventure.

There are 18 pages in the book focussed on Australia’s outdoor activities.

"From plunging into the azure ocean surrounding the world’s biggest coral reef to hiking through primordial landscapes dating back to Gondwana, adventure is everywhere in Australia," according to Lonely Planet.

"We tracked down our most adventure-loving experts, wherever they happened to be, and asked them to share their tips for the best places to experience thrilling outdoor activities.

"Whatever your adventure poison – be it climbing or kayaking, skiing or surfing, road cycling or mountain biking, trail running or camel trekking – you will find it here, usually in world-class form, and often without too many others around to break your solitude."

The guide, published this month, includes action-packed getaways – climbing, skiing, mountain-biking, surfing and and even skydiving –  in more than 150 countries around the world.

The 320-page book includes "inspiring photography, maps, interviews and expert authors", according to Lonely Planet, and it is "the ultimate introduction to a thrilling new world of adventure".

"We tracked down our most adventure-loving experts, wherever they happened to be, and asked them to share their tips for the best places to experience thrilling outdoor activities."

The book costs $44.99.
