How much does the new Volkswagen Amarok cost?

Volkswagen has confirmed pricing and arrival timing for its long-awaited second-generation Amarok ute.

Volkswagen has confirmed pricing and local specification for its long-awaited new-generation Amarok.

The new Amarok, which now shares a platform with the concurrent Ford Ranger, is split into a five-variant range, with prices starting from $50,990 before on-road costs for the base Core.

The Core is offered exclusively with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder single-turbo-diesel engine (125kW/405Nm), with the choice of a six-speed manual, or six-speed automatic transmission.

Standard features on this base version include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, auto folding exterior mirrors, fabric seat trim, an 8.0-inch digital dash, 10.0-inch portrait multimedia touchscreen, single-zone air conditioning, a vinyl floor and a reversing camera.

On the practicality front, the Amarok Core offers a standard towbar (with optional brake controller), manually locking tailgate, mud-flaps, tie-down rings, a mechanical differential lock, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Core also scores front-facing active safety items, including freeway-speed auto emergency braking, lane keep assist, speed sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control.

Next up, the Amarok Life is offered only with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo-diesel engine (154kW/500Nm) mated to a 10-speed automatic, and prices start from $56,990.

Standard features include alternate 17-inch alloys, colour-matching bumpers, LED fog lamps, heated mirrors and puddle lamps, locking wheel nuts, a power tailgate lock, improved fabric seat trim, six speaker audio system, eight-way manual adjust for the front seats, privacy glass for the rear seats, leather-bound steering wheel, and carpet for the floor covering.

The Core features standard towbar, manually locking tailgate and mud-flaps.

The manual park brake is replaced by an electronic one, while the Life also scores light sensors, front parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and an auto-dimming rear-vision mirror.

Next up is the upper mid-grade Style. The Style can be chosen with either the 2.0-litre twin-turbo-diesel engine ($66,990) or a $70,990 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine (184kW/600Nm), both mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment is upgraded to include 18-inch alloy wheels, a chrome rear bumper and side-steps, upgraded ‘IQ’ LED headlights, a tub liner and sports bar.

Inside is a 12.0-inch multimedia screen.

Inside, the Style scores a larger 12.0-inch multimedia screen with built-in navigation, and a matching 12.0-inch digital dash. The driver seat is 10-way power adjust, while both front seats are heated. There is an insulated windshield, dual-zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, keyless entry with push-start ignition, surround-view camera, an alarm system and the full Park Assist suite.

Next is the PanAmericana grade, which is only available as a 3.0-litre V6 mated to a 10-speed automatic, wearing a before on-roads price-tag of $75,990. This grade adds 18-inch black alloy wheels, a blacked-out exterior detail package with matching sports bar and side steps,  LED tail-lights, a bed-liner, leather seat trim with leather door inserts and dash detailing, black interior headliner, an eight-speaker sound system, and 10-way power adjust for both the driver and front passenger.

The PanAmericana scores a blacked-out exterior detail package.

Finally, the top-spec Aventura is available with either the 3.0-litre V6 diesel option, or, unusually for a high-grade ute, a 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine (222kW/452Nm). Both are mated to a 10-speed automatic and wear a price-tag of $79,990.

Standard equipment includes 21-inch alloy wheels, chrome highlights including a front bumper, exterior mirror claddings, door handles, side steps and a sailplane, an electronic roller cover for the tray, and alternate leather interior trim.

Options are limited to paint colours, all of which carry a $990 charge except for ‘Clear White’. Meanwhile the Savona leather interior (standard on the Aventura grade) can be equipped for $3000 on the Style.

The Aventura is available with either a 3.0-litre V6 diesel or a 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Volkswagen says demand for the higher-grade cars, the Aventura, PanAmericana, and Style are where it expects the strongest demand to be, and as such the high-grade Aventura and PanAmericana will arrive first in Australia, with a release date earmarked for late April.

Volkswagen Australia confirmed the Style, Life, and Core grades would follow “in a matter of weeks”, and that it continued to be confident in supply levels from the factory, which will help it avoid lengthy waiting periods experienced by some popular models from other brands.
