Ford Everest police car takes shape! New-gen Ranger ute expected to report for duty next year, but could the Everest SUV also be in line to serve?

You could be looking at the future of the Victoria Police vehicle fleet.

Yes, it’s a render, but it’s not complete fantasy.

The new-generation Everest SUV, and its Ranger ute twin, could be in line for duty as Victoria Police’s newest recruits.

Firstly, how cool is it? The render is of course based on the recently revealed second-generation Everest SUV that was designed and engineered right here in Australia and is expected to roll into showrooms from about August this year.

Victoria Police has been using the outgoing T6 Ranger as part of its divisional van fleet for a number of years and, naturally, those vehicles will eventually be replaced.

CarsGuide asked a Victoria Police spokesperson whether the force could employ the upcoming Everest SUV in some capacity, or if it will add the new Ranger to the roster, and this is what they said:

“Victoria Police is working with Ford Australia to assess the suitability of new model vehicles for policing duties.

“It is anticipated that any new models would not be introduced until late 2022/early 2023.”

No confirmation of models per se, but it looks like we will see new-gen Ford products wrapped in Victoria Police livery within the next 12 months.

We reckon the Everest looks very cool in police get-up, and it would make an excellent addition to the fleet – especially in regional and rural areas – should Vic Pol opt to use it.

The question is, which powertrain best suits police duties? Whether it’s just the Ranger, or the Ranger and the Everest, both models come with the following.

Ford is offering the carryover – albeit with modifications – bi-turbo 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, pumping out 154kW/500Nm, and matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

It’s also added a new 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel unit, also with the 10-speed auto, delivering 184kW/600Nm.

The latter sounds like a logical choice, but that 2.0-litre unit is not to be dismissed.

Of course, another option would be the 292kW/583Nm V6 bi-turbo petrol V6-powered Ranger Raptor.

We can dream, can’t we?
