This flagship family SUV has just been put on hold.

The release of BYD’s next flagship large SUV has been pushed back until the second quarter of 2026, according to Car News China.

BYD's Dynasty D was first seen at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year and comes in six-seater and seven-seater variants.

It was supposed to be launched before the end of 2025, but BYD has decided to put that on hold to further refine the car.

It gets a hybrid system, which pairs a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with front and rear mounted electric motors, and has an electric-only driving range of more than 200km.

BYD is making a conscious effort to grow its plug-in hybrid range in Australia, with the current Sealion 6 mid-size SUV and Shark 6 ute to be joined by the Sealion 8 large SUV and Sealion 5 compact SUV. BYD's Denza sub-brand is also bringing two off-road focused plug-in hybrid Down Under, the B5 and B8.

The Dynasty D is bigger than all those SUVs, measuring at around 5200mm long compared to the Sealion 6 at 4700mm in length.

BYD have been contacted as to whether this large SUV will come across to Australia.

The Dynasty D would measure up more closely to GMC's Yukon Denali.

The Yukon Denali comes as a 6.2-litre V8, and starts from $174,990, before on-road costs.

The Dynasty D would have a significantly cheaper price point in Australia, if it makes it way down under.

The Dynasty D’s delay leaves BYD behind other Chinese rivals that have unveiled similar large SUVs and have put them to sale.

Zeekr’s 9X was revealed in China recently and its range-topping variant boasts 1000kW. It features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and electric motors combo.
