2021 Mini Countryman Boardwalk Edition pricing and specs detailed: New special for Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1 rival

The Mini Countryman’s new Boardwalk Edition can be reserved online.

Mini Australia has confirmed the first special for the facelifted version of the second-generation Countryman small SUV, with the Boardwalk Edition due next month.

The Boardwalk Edition stands out from the Countryman crowd with its Deep Laguna metallic paintwork, Piano Black exterior trim, black 18-inch Pin alloy wheels and fold-out picnic bench.

And if you’re still having trouble telling the difference, the Boardwalk Edition goes even further with characteristic garnishes on the ‘side scuttles’ and scuff plates as well as branding between the C- and D-pillars.

Inside, the Boardwalk Edition once again features branding, this time on the passenger side of the Piano Black dashboard insert, as well as a panoramic sunroof, a 410W Harman Kardon sound system with 12 speakers, and front sports seats with heating.

Two variants of the Boardwalk Edition are available, with the Cooper priced from $52,000 plus on-road costs and limited to 29 units, while the Cooper S checks in at $58,500 and is restricted to 30 examples.

Asking for an extra $7500 over the regular Cooper, the Boardwalk Edition also includes LED lighting, keyless entry and start, an 8.8-inch touchscreen multimedia system, Apple CarPlay support, a 5.5-inch digital instrument cluster, Carbon Black Mini Yours leatherette upholstery, an Anthracite headliner and a reversing camera.

The Cooper Boardwalk Edition is motivated by a 100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, which is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Commanding a $5600 premium over the normal Cooper S, the Boardwalk Edition features a black honeycomb grille insert, a sports steering wheel, power-adjustable front seats with memory functionality, Carbon Black Cross Punch leather upholstery and adaptive cruise control.

The Cooper S Boardwalk Edition is powered by a 141kW/280Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, which is mated to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.

For reference, both new variants of the Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1 rival are front-wheel drive.

Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum. That said, despite loving cars and writing, Justin chose to pursue career paths that didn’t lend themselves to automotive journalism, before eventually ending up working as a computer technician. But that car itch just couldn’t be scratched by his chipped Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7), so he finally decided to give into the inevitable and study a Master of Journalism at the same time. And even with the long odds, Justin was lucky enough to land a full-time job as a motoring journalist soon after graduating and the rest, as they say, is history. These days, Justin happily finds himself working at CarsGuide during the biggest period of change yet for the automotive industry, which is perhaps the most exciting part of all. In case you’re wondering, Justin begrudgingly sold the Golf R (sans chip) and still has plans to buy his dream car, an E46 BMW M3 coupe (manual, of course), but he is in desperate need of a second car space – or maybe a third.
