Toyota Australia’s only all-electric has just had its price massively slashed.
Price and specifications for the updated bZ4X mid-size SUV have just been revealed, with significant price drops ahead of its third year on sale in Australia.
The front-wheel-drive bZ4X now starts from $55,990, before on-road costs, down from $66,000, while the all-wheel drive starts from $67,990, down from $74,990.
Both variants have had their electric motor set-ups tweaked to boost power.
The FWD's updated front-mounted electric motor has resulted in modestly improved performance compared to the previous model, up to 165kW and 269Nm.
The AWD has received a more substantial boost in power, with its front and rear electric motors now pumping out 252kW and 438Nm in comparison to 160kW/337Nm.
This extra power for the AWD means braked towing capacity has been doubled to 1500kg.
Both variants have seen increases in range, with 591km for the FWD and 517km for the AWD, according to WLTP testing.
There is more good news for buyers with a host of new features available as standard, such as a bigger 14.0-inch touchscreen and two wireless phone chargers.
Other standard improvements include a heated steering wheel and power tailgate.
The bZ4X has faced a tough battle in the mid-size SUV segment, with less than 1000 sales so far in 2025.
It is not alone in its all-electric struggles in the segment in recent times.
Hyundai was forced to slash prices on its Ioniq 5 by more than 15 per cent in an attempt to stimulate sales, with the brand significantly trimming its variants for the 2026 model year.
Toyota will be adding another variant to the bZ4X line-up, with a ‘Touring’ spec arriving in the second quarter of 2026. It includes a more powerful electric motor set-up and increased rear storage capacity.
