    Environmental levy on logbook service

    I have a BF Falcon XR6, a 2007 VTi Honda Jazz, and a VW Polo TDi. When each car has gone to the dealer for its logbook service each bill has contained a charge for workshop supplies/environmental levy, but they are for very different amounts. The Honda dealer charges $16, the Ford dealer charges $22, and the VW dealer charges $49. When I queried the VW dealer about it, I was told it was a government charge, but consumer affairs told me that no such levy existed, and to take my car elsewhere. I would like to keep the car dealer-serviced, as it will be easy to sell later on. Is there anything that can be done about dealers that over charge?

    Dealers pay to dispose of the waste products from servicing your  car, like oils, greases, coolant, brake fluids, soiled rags, and so on, and they pass those costs on to you, the customer. Some slug you more than others. The best course of action is to go somewhere else to have your car serviced, as you have been advised.
