Toyota Audible 2007: Cold engine noise that doesn't disappear?

MY 2007 Toyota Aurion has an engine noise when cold that does not completely disappear, even when the engine is up to normal operating temperature. The noise is definitely piston slap. Toyota and the dealers have indicated this is a characteristic of this motor because of the piston design. The noise has been heard in other vehicles. I find this hard to accept from a vehicle so technically advanced. Have you heard similar complaints about this engine?
