The Volvo XC90 is available from $88,490 to $118,990 for the 2022 SUV across a range of models.
Now as much of a symbol for Volvo in Australia as its squared-off wagon ancestors, the Volvo flagship large SUV has kept the brand in the fight against tough rivals like the Volkswagen Touareg, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class.
While the first generation stuck around from 2002-2014 (perhaps past its use-by date), the second generation introduced an all-new platform and dramatic styling language, as well as smaller turbocharged engines designed to work alongside hybrid systems. Volvo is pitched at the premium end of the market, and as such is priced from $88,490 for the XC90 B5 Momentum Mhev and goes as high as $118,990 for the XC90 Recharge Phev (W47).

Replacing Volvo XC90 rear diff
It’s a sign of the times, carmakers are not supporting their products the way they once did and more and more owners are finding themselves stuck as you are. It seems we’re now meant to sell our cars before they get to the point of needing major surgery. You could try sourcing the bearings from overseas via the Internet, or you could also try and find a second hand diff that has serviceable bearings and for that as a unit.

Coverage of new XC90?
We have been reporting the long-overdue new XC90 since Volvo first began the trickle feed of information, including in our February 20 edition. We also highlighted it as a potential Car of the Year contender in last week's edition. As for words like "benchmark", "standout" and "quality", we are waiting for a verdict when we drive it locally in early August. Watch out for our review.

Good second-hand seven-seat SUV?
The XC90 is a very old design and one at that price might be a bit doubtful. Your best choice would be a Kia or Hyundai, which are far better than you might think and may even have some factory warranty at your budget.
