The Volvo EX30 is an all-electric SUV that is currently the smallest and quickest vehicle in the company’s catalogue.
Volvo revealed the punchy little model in 2023, with its forward-thinking design, hi-tech features and competitive pricing making it one of the most compelling entries into the increasingly competitive electric small-SUV segment.
The line-up currently starts at $59,990 for the EX30 Plus Single Motor Ext Range and ranges through to $69,990 for the range-topping EX30 Cross Country.
The interior of the Volvo EX30 range across its three variants includes hard plastic, soft-touch surfaces and a denim-like material or “tailored wool blend” seat upholstery.
In terms of space, as befitting a compact SUV, there’s not a lot of it.
The glove box is small, there’s no centre console, and the door pockets are narrow and shallow.
The second row is squeezy and there are few amenities: no fold-down arm-rest with cup-holders, no directional air vents and the panoramic glass roof in top-spec variants doesn’t have a sliding cover.
Exterior paint options include Cloud Blue, Crystal White, Onyx Black, Vapour Grey and Sand Dune.
At a minimum the Volvo EX30 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system (with wireless Apple CarPlay), wireless charging, a Harman Kardon stereo with front sound-bar, 360-degree camera, semi-autonomous parking assist, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Also across the line-up's standard features list are LED headlights and tail-lights, a digital key (Bluetooth phone unlocking), heated steering wheel, power tailgate and a fixed panoramic glass roof (but no sliding cover).
In the Volvo EX30, with both rows in use, there’s a listed 318L of cargo volume in the rear cargo area) and 1000L when the second row is stowed away. The rear cargo area has a light and bag hooks and there’s a charging cable and tyre-repair kit* in the shallow underfloor storage space.
There is seven litres of cargo volume in the “Frunk” (front trunk).
The Volvo EX30 can do the 0-100kmh sprint in 5.3 seconds (in single motor rear-wheel drive variants) or 3.7 seconds (in the twin-motor all-wheel drive variants).
The Volvo EX30 is built at the Volvo Group's Zhangjiakou plant in China, with final assembly taking place in Chengdu, China.
