Towing
I am looking to buy my first dual-cab ute and tossing up between a Holden Colorado and a Nissan Navara. I will be towing a caravan with it. Any advice would be helpful.
We purchased a 2009 Holden Captiva SX AWD, 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, automatic from a Holden dealer in 2011.
The car had an odometer reading of 35,934 km and we paid $27,850. At the time of purchase we still had six months new car warranty on it and purchased another 3-year/100,000 km warranty for an additional $2400. We now have an odometer reading of 161,625 km. We have rigorously serviced the car over the past seven years and put new tyres on last month at a cost of $800. For a few years now we have had issues with the electronics, fuel filter light coming on, engine light coming on etc. and Holden could not find a solution.
Finally, we found a mechanic who suggested to change the turbo at a cost of around $3500-$4000. The mechanic indicated that this repair may have further implications and future repairs could be a flow on effect, given his experience. This is a major investment with potential future major investments.
Given the age of the car, should we trade it in for a newer model? Which medium SUV could be a good alternative as a newer model?
We do not wish to purchase a brand new car, but maybe 2-3 years old. We drive mainly in the city with a few short country trips during the year. We also envisage purchasing a camping trailer and may need to consider towing capacity of a new vehicle. We looked at the Captiva reviews and they don't look too good.
How much can a Kia Soul tow and is it a good choice of car for towing a trailer?
I'm thinking of buying a 2014 Mazda6 turbo-diesel wagon and was wondering if it's suitable to tow my boat, which is about 700 kg loaded. I drive Sydney to Queensland twice a year as well as some country weekend runs with the boat. And do you know of any known problems I should look for with this model? I also like the Passat diesel as well. What are your thoughts?
What is the towing allowance for my 2008 Territory AWD?
