Suzuki Jimny

Aaah, the Suzuki Jimny. If we’re honest, there are a lot of other cars you really should think of buying before this two-door box-chassis 4x4 that dates back to the late 1980s.

It’s not very spacious, far from well equipped and its safety inclusions are rudimentary at best. This rugged little charmer trades on its cuteness and heritage, though, and it epitomises honest, simple motoring at a good price. And it’s surprisingly capable off road. Rebuilt from the ground up in 2011, it offers just one powertrain; Suzuki’s clever 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol backed by a five-speed manual or four-speed auto.

Current prices range from $20,990 for the Jimny (base) to $22,990 for the Jimny (base).
