Our most recent review of the 2026 RAM 2500 resulted in a score of 7 out of 10 for that particular example.
Carsguide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis had this to say at the time: If you're a grey nomad with a massive caravan searching for something to do the big lap in, or a big boater seeking an effortless weekend getaway machine, then this sort of ute makes sense. The HD series shows just how much more muscle is available, for those who genuinely need it.

This is what Byron Mathioudakis liked most about this particular version of the RAM 2500: Endless torque, Massive space, Comfortable, refined cabin
The Ram 2500 HD is available in 'Forged Blue', 'Molten Red', 'Diamond Black', 'Granite Crystal', 'Ceramic Grey', 'Silver Zynith' and 'Bright White'. The Ram 3500 HD is only available in Bright White.
The Cummins-sourced 6.7-litre in-line six-cylinder turbo-diesel unit now delivers 313kW of power at 2800rpm and 1458Nm at 1800rpm. A new eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF replaces the old six-speed unit.
Water damage to a car will only be considered a warranty job if it entered the car through a dud rubber seal or other defect in the car’s body. If the water got in through the car being partly submerged in floodwaters or a window left open in a torrential downpour, then that would be classed as accidental damage and not a warranty issue.
So, job one is to work out how the water entered the car. Don’t forget that the Laramie is converted to right-hand-drive in Australia (and the cabin basically rebuilt from scratch in the process) so make sure that nothing was left out or overlooked in that process.
The problem in many new cars is that the computer controlling a lot of the car’s functions often sits on the floor (under the passenger’s seat) where even a small amount of water ingress can cause lots of electrical problems to the ECU, wiring and harness connectors. It’s for this reason that once a car has been water damaged, many insurance companies will write the vehicle off, knowing that it will be a problem child down the track if they don’t.

The rule of thumb is that a float with two horses on board is around the 2000kg mark, so that’s the absolute bare minimum towing limit you’d be looking at. Even then, by the time you add a couple of saddles, some feed bins and whatever else it is horsey people cart around, you could easily be looking at 2.5 or even three tonnes.
With that in mind, the smart move would be to buy a dual-cab ute with as much towing capacity as possible. The good news there is that many of the popular choices can tow a braked trailer weighing anything up to 3.5 tonnes. Think about it; if a ute can tow 3.5 tonnes, it should cope easily with two tonnes.
If, on the other hand, we’re talking a three-axle float and a pair of Clydesdale horses, you might have to look at one of the US-made utes from the likes of RAM or other US-market brands. And even then, you need to be careful: Even though some versions of the RAM ute can legally tow 4500kg with a braked trailer, to do so and not exceed the GCM (the combined mass of the vehicle and trailer) the payload in the tray falls to less than 100kg.

The Ram 2500 HD and 3500 HD for 2026 change from a six-seater to a five-seater full-sized ute, thanks to the switch to normal 'bucket' seats. Heated and ventilated, they are designed to provide greater comfort. In the rear, the three-person bench is now fixed, save for the storage available underneath the hinged split-fold cushion.
The Ram 2500 HD and 3500 HD series can scoot from zero to 100km/h (0-100km/h) in under 7.3 seconds, on the way to a top speed of about 165km/h.
Tub length is 1938mm, width is 1687mm and 1295mm between the wheel arches and depth is 511mm.
The Australian Government does not mandate an official combined fuel consumption figure for full-sized utes like the Ram 2500 HD and 3500 HD.
But the trip meter in two of our test vehicles consumed between 15 litres per 100km and 15.6L/100km of diesel fuel, and both had not been towing a trailer or load since being reset. Based on those in-car computer numbers, expect the 117-litre fuel tank to provide about 760km between refills.
