Iran introduces a knockoff Murcielago with Hyundai power

By Mitchell TulkMitchell Tulk

The last time a Lamborghini Murcielago rolled off the assembly line was in 2010, but a company in Iran is putting the Italian supercar back into production... sort of.

Aiming to start an Iranian supercar industry, Massoud Mordi and his team have taken four years to create their own Murcielago SV, which copys every aspect of the Lambo.

Mordi said their version is the "perfect" duplicate of the original with only specialists or designers able to spot the differences.

While the exterior looks identical to a proper Murcielago, in the cabin there are some not-so-Lambo bits such as the steering wheel and the dials, which look to be taken from a Hyundai.

Speaking of Hyundai, instead of a V12 the engine is a 3.8-litre V6 from a Genesis coupe.

This unit was chosen because it would be easier to service in Iran, but the team would like to install a V8 or V10 to future examples.

Despite having half the cylinders of the V12, Moradi believes the supercar will blow-past 280km/h, but that’s yet to be seen.

There’s no word on price yet, but if there’s enough demand Moradi claims 50-100 units can be built each year.

Oversteer contacted Lamborghini for a statement, but the brand doesn't comment on the activities of other manufacturers.

Do you think this replica is ideal for people who can’t afford a real Murcielago? Let us know in the comments.
