Have you ever wanted to transport a fridge in your Type R but found the boot a bit lacking?

Well don’t fear because the team at Honda’s Product Engineering department in the UK has taken one of the hottest hot hatches and transformed it into a beaut ute.

Officially named Project P, they took a pre-production Type R and ditched the roof behind the B-pilliars, rear doors and back seats to make way for the ute bed.

Complete with a rollbar and an opening tailgate (which still includes that outrageous spoiler), it'll now fit two Honda lawnmowers.

Under the skin everything remains unchanged, the turbo 2.0-litre four cylinder still produces 235kW/400NM and is connected to a six-speed manual.

Honda is also considering taking the Project P to the Nürburgring, aiming for the fastest front-wheel drive pickup truck lap record.

Would you like to see Honda put the Project P into production? Let us know in the comments below.

Following a passion shared by his father and grandfather, Mitchell’s love of cars really kicked off with his Godfather’s purchase of a new Mazda RX-8. Exposure to that car changed his world forever, leading to an RX-7 obsession. To feed his automotive addiction, Mitchell decided to become a motoring journalist and made his mark at several high-profile motoring publications before landing at CarsGuide. While he is a rotary loyalist, Mitchell also has a massive love for Aussie muscle cars, and dreams of one day getting behind the wheel of a Charger R/T E49 (if anyone will let him). His other passions include Queensland, and spending Saturdays with the boys.
