Nissan Sakura

Nissan Sakura

The Nissan Sakura is a compact electric hatch that’s helped bring EV tech to Japan’s popular kei car segment. Launched in 2022, the Sakura was built to offer urban drivers a quiet, emissions-free alternative without stepping into a larger car. It shares its platform with the Mitsubishi eK X EV and was developed under the Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

Named after Japan’s famous cherry blossoms, the Sakura is designed for city life. It’s just 3.4 metres long but still offers space for four. The 47kW electric motor is modest, yet well suited to low-speed driving. Its 20kWh battery allows a claimed range of up to 180km. This makes it a good fit for short daily trips, and fast charging gets it back on the road in under an hour.

The Sakura is currently sold only in Japan, with no export version confirmed. But its mix of size, tech and affordability has made it a standout among Japanese EVs.
