"The Nissan 200SX earned a cult following in Australia during the 1990s and early 2000s as a stylish and affordable rear-wheel-drive sports coupe. Based on the Japanese-market Silvia, the 200SX arrived locally in S14 form in 1994, featuring a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that delivered lively performance and sharp handling.
Renamed from Silvia to better suit global markets, the 200SX stood out for offering genuine driving thrills at a relatively accessible price. The later S15 version, launched in 1999, refined the formula with sleeker styling, a stiffer chassis and more power from the SR20DET engine. It was offered in two trims – the enthusiast-focused Spec S and the better-equipped Spec R.
Though Nissan ended Australian sales in 2002, the 200SX remains a favourite among tuners and collectors. Known as the Silvia in Japan and the 240SX in North America, this coupe helped shape the identity of affordable performance in the modern era."
The line-up currently starts at $22,220 for the 200SX Spec S and ranges through to $30,800 for the range-topping 200SX Spec R.
BAD news, I'm afraid. It's almost certain that the engine being over-revved has caused the problem. That doesn't mean that you have revved it hard through the gears. It's more likely because of a missed gear when shifting down through them. It's possible that a lower gear than the one you intended to select has been selected and the engine has momentarily over-revved as a result. It doesn't take much to bend a valve.
