The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander range of configurations is currently priced from $4,999.
Carsguide Contributing Journalist David Morley had this to say at the time: It's not the sexiest or sportiest SUV out there, but the Outlander does stack up for its good interior space and its value for money. Find one with relatively low kilometres and a full service record and if in any doubt, have the CVT transmission checked out before you hand over the money.

The 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander carries a braked towing capacity of up to 1600 Kg, but check to ensure this applies to the configuration you're considering.
The Mitsubishi Outlander is also known as Mitsubishi Airtrek (2001–2005) in markets outside Australia.
The Mitsubishi Outlander 2013 prices range from $6,600 for the basic trim level SUV Es (4X2) to $14,630 for the top of the range SUV Aspire (4x4).
The used Captiva does appear to be great value, but their shaky reputation for reliability would lead me to consider other options. The Territory would be a better bet, but they are known to have electrical and front suspension issues in the long-term. If you're after an SUV, a seven-seat 2006-12 Mitsubishi Outlander is smart buying at the moment, but if you're just after the seven seats, I highly recommend taking a look at a 2008-13 Kia Rondo. These represent excellent value at the moment. Hope that helps, and keep us posted with your progress.

You’ll struggle to get a 2013 Kluger KX-S within your budget; you would have to go to an earlier model to find one that fits. You’re right the Kluger is roomier, but thirstier than the Outlander, which would fit within your budget. You say you’re a family of four; presumably two of those are children who might be comfortable in the rear seats. It’s probably a compromise, but it seems the Outlander would be the better choice for your circumstances.

The three cars you name all have merit, none has any major issue to be concerned about and all fit your needs, but you will have to shop around to find them within your age and budget limits.
