Your frustration is understandable. I would urge you to go back to Mercedes-Benz direct and request some assistance with the cost of repairs. While I doubt that Mercedes would cover the whole cost of the job, I would think they might cover part of the cost if you approach them in a reasonable way. If you don't want to go down that path consult an automatic transmission specialist and get another quote for repairs.

It's always a good idea to get a second opinion when facing the prospect of a large repair bill on something like an automatic transmission. Independent specialists who are working on automatic transmissions all the time often have greater knowledge about them than the dealership mechanics who don't work on them every day.

We are not aware of any issues with the ML series generally, but big wheels and low profile tyres like those fitted to your car are more sensitive to the camber on the road and that could be your problem. As you've already had some success in getting action from your dealer I would suggest you head back there and discuss with them what they might be able to do to improve it even more.

Low profile tyres are more prone to following the changes in the road surface than higher profile tyres, which is probably what you were experiencing.

Go back to the dealer and explain your frustration to him and request again that they be fixed. Should that not achieve the outcome you want take your complaint higher and go directly to Mercedes-Benz itself. I am sure if you do that you will receive the service you believe you are entitled to.

Unfortunately all brands are subject to failures, even Mercedes-Benz, and while you should rightly expect better service from an expensive brand like Mercedes-Benz your car is seven years old. Problems with the air suspension on the S-class are not unusual. You could press your case for some form of compensation from Mercedes-Benz itself, not the dealer, and the company might come to the party for part of your costs. If that doesn't happen and you are left to repair the car at your own cost go to an independent mechanic who specializes in Mercedes-Benz and have them repair it. That way you should be able to make a substantial saving on the cost of the  repair. Many owners have their cars converted to regular suspension, which can be done for much less than repairing the air suspension.
